Kathy Tate v. Louisiana State Board of Supervisors/State of Louisiana, et al
In the 24th Judicial District Court for the Parish of Jefferson, before the Honorable Nancy Miller, on November 27— December 2, 2023, Peter Wanek defended a physician (rheumatologist) in a medical malpractice claim filed by a patient who claimed she suffered complete blindness in one eye and diminished sight in the other eye, as a result of a misdiagnosis and failure to treat the plaintiff’s alleged autoimmune condition and bacterial infection, and that as a result, she suffered blindness. In closing, the plaintiff asked the jury to award approximately $5 million. The jury deliberated for approximately 30 minutes and rendered a defense verdict in favor of the defendants.
